The information on this page relates to driving over-weight vehicles (permits managed by Hastings District Council), and over-dimensional vehicles and loads, HPMV and 50Max vehicles (managed by NZTA) on Hastings’ roads.
Trucks or transportation devices that exceed general access mass limits (Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimension and Mass 2016) are required to obtain a permit to be driven on Hastings’ road.
To apply for a permit, download and complete the NZTA Overweight Permit Application (on pages 3 and 4, there are notes on filling out the form and terminology explanations). Lodge this form with Hastings District Council by email or deliver it to Council’s administration building in Lyndon Rd, Hastings.
All charges are listed in the table below. Where identical permits for multiple vehicles are applied for at the same time, you will only be charged for one permit.
To apply for a permit, complete the application on the NZTA website.
For more information on over-dimensional vehicles and loads visit the NZTA website.
HPMV permits are managed by NZTA. The issuing of a permit allows a freight operator to carry heavier payloads on parts of the network where bridges have been upgraded to take the greater weights. Please find further information including how to apply for a permit on the NZTA website.
Approved High Productivity Motor Vehicles Routes can be found on this map on the NZTA website.
50MAX is a new generation of truck that allows for the more efficient transport of freight. 50MAX trucks are slightly longer than general access vehicles, have an additional axle (nine in total) and can have a total weight of up to 50 tonnes. Please submit your 50 max permit application to NZTA here.
You can see 50max restricted bridges on this NZTA map.
