Marae Development Fund

The purpose of the Marae Development Fund is to assist with marae preservation maintenance and development, in a strategic way.

Smarty Grants Log InThe Marae Development Fund is one mechanism of Council’s commitment to respond to the needs and aspirations of mana whenua with respect to marae; benefitting marae hapū, and the district.

This fund will contribute to the protection of the culture and heritage embodied in marae facilities and relationships, critical to community infrastructure and the ability to exercise whanaungatanga and manaakitanga.

The Marae Development Fund is currently closed

Eligibility

To be eligible for the fund, the applicant marae will:

  • Be situated within the Hastings District
  • Be registered as a marae reservation under the Māori Land Court
  • Be able to fund 50% of the total project cost (Council is funding 50%).

Priorities for funding

  • Health and Safety matters, including fire and earthquake requirements
  • Upgrading of marae facilities and purchasing equipment
  • Upgrading of wharekai and purchasing equipment
  • Maintenance of exterior carvings and tukutuku panels.
