Te Waka Tākaro - Hastings Play Trailer

Te Waka Tākaro is a mobile community play trailer, filled with play based equipment, with the purpose of supporting and empowering the community to understand and appreciate play. It aims to create more play opportunities for local rangatahi, enabling authentic learning to take place through free and creative play.

The play trailer was made possible by the partnership between Hastings District Council and Sport Hawkes’s Bay and was established by Tu Manawa Active Aotearoa fund.

Te Waka Tākaro will be run on a bookings basis and is available to take bookings. Please note the person towing the trailer will need their full driver’s license, a current registration and a current WoF. The trailer will need to be collected from Hastings Sports Centre (503 Railway Road, Hastings)

Why is Play important?

Play is where children practice life

Play is essential for growth in cognitive, physical, social and emotional development. It builds fundamental physical literacy, fosters creativity and innovation, builds ability to identify and manage risk. Play contributes to not only children’s lives but also the wellbeing of their families, whānau and wider community.

Sport New Zealand has developed seven Principles of Play that advocate for the importance of play in young New Zealander’s lives.
