Eastern Interceptor

What’s happening here?

We’ve been working hard to upgrade the wastewater system across the Hastings District. We’re now ready to start work on Collinge Road and Willowpark Road with a project called ‘The Eastern Interceptor.’  Work will include the renewal of pipelines to ensure the continued resilience of the wastewater network.

When's it happening?

There are a few stages involved with this work. The first stage involves replacing a wastewater main along Collinge Road, from Karamu Road down to the Willowpark Road intersection. Once the work has been completed on Collinge contractors will move down Willowpark Road – doing sections bit by bit.

We’ve highlighted the entire project area on the map below.

Project details

To upgrade the wastewater network we need to replace the existing pipe. This means we need to dig up the road and will have to reduce traffic to one lane at times. We’ll have speed reductions and alternative walking paths in place to keep everyone safe.

There will be short periods of time when residents may not be able to access their drive-way. The contractor will be in touch directly with the affected residents to give more details on what will be happening and when. There will also be reduced on-street parking.

Residents can expect to see workers on site from 7am to 5pm and will hear some noise.

Hawke’s Bay Infrastructure are doing this work on behalf of Hastings District Council.

The team hopes to have the Eastern Interceptor work completed by February 2024 (weather and ground conditions permitting).

Yes, residents will be able to access their properties for the duration of the project.

The project work does not involve needing to turn off any water. The contractor will be in touch directly with residents if there are any issues.

You can call the contractor’s office on 06 834 2864.
