Lost and found dogs

Lost dogs

If you have lost your dog please visit our Animal Welfare Centre in Stevens Pl, Flaxmere, in person to see if your dog has been brought in.

It is important that you come into the centre to identify your dog as many dogs are cross-breeds and descriptions can differ. No dog can be accurately identified over the phone. If your dog is not collected within seven days, we may re-home it. If your dog is not in our Animal Welfare Centre, we recommend you phone the local branch of the SPCA; phone: 878 8733.

Found dogs

If you have found a dog, please contact Hastings District Council, phone 871 5000, and we will arrange collection; or you can bring it to us at the Animal Welfare Centre in Stevens Place, Hastings during opening hours.

We advise you not to handle or try to restrain an aggressive dog. Instead, try to enclose it by locking it in a shed or behind a gate, and phone Council immediately.

Animal Welfare Centre open hours

  • Monday to Friday: 9am to 10am and 3pm to 4pm
  • Saturday: 9am to 10am
  • Sundays and public holidays: Closed
