Scenic Maraetotara Falls can be found along the popular Maraetotara Historic Walk, close to the site of the old Havelock North Power Station (the power station itself is on private property). The falls are an easy 15 minute drive from Havelock North, heading towards Waimārama. The approx. 1km trail alongside the river is currently washed out and blocked as a result of Cyclone Gabrielle in some places, so is not continuous.
A large swimming spot at the base of this waterfall, make Maraetotara Falls a popular place to visit. Take your towel if you feel like a dip but jumping from the top of the falls is not recommended.
Overnight camping in self-contained vehicles is permitted.
Seating: No
Public toilets: Yes (port-a-loos)
There are three entrances to the reserve, all off Maraetotara Rd.
Maintenance and development programmes for this reserve are governed by the District Wide Reserve Management Plan.
