McVicars Culvert is treated as a bridge due to the waterway area under the road being large. The existing bridge consists of two 1 metre diameter culverts that pass under the road.
The road at McVicars Culvert has been washed away three times in recent memory, most recently in 2018.
Bridge length | 2m |
Span arrangement | Two 1m diameter culverts |
Culvert length | 34m |
Carriageway width | 7m |
Lane arrangement | Dual lane |
Approximately 3m of road was washed away during the cyclone. Earthworks have been completed to allow road users to pass. Access may be limited during heavy rainfall.
In early February, TW Civil and Infrastructure will commence repair work on McVicars Culvert. These permanent repairs follow temporary fixes made after Cyclone Gabrielle and will also include the clearing of vegetation and silt from the culvert sites. It is anticipated that these works will be completed in July 2025. All work will be done between the hours of 7am-6pm Monday to Saturday.
While the repairs are undertaken a temporary route around the works will enable road access to be maintained. Minor delays are to be expected with the route under stop/go traffic control. There may be some wait times of up to five minutes.
