The Pop-Up pump track is popping up in your neighbourhood. Grab your bike, scooter or skateboard and have a go.
With the support of Sport Hawke’s Bay’s Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa fund, Council has secured a pop-up pump track supplied by Parklife New Zealand.
Research has shown both scootering and cycling are among the top 10 most popular activities for youth, and the pump track is a fantastic way to enjoy these activities, to get fit and be social.
A modular pump track system that offers a perfect riding track for bikes, scooters, skateboards and blades, with a combination of humps and berms for all riding abilities.
It’s 65 metres long, with a fibre-glass non-slip riding surface that can be configured into different layouts. Check out the video to see the pump track in action at Flaxmere Park
The pump track is being installed in various park locations around the district – to date these parks have largely been chosen due to them undergoing major upgrades or where there is other disruption to getting access to the existing play facilities or where there is limited access to similar facilities in the wider District.
The locations of the pump track are in part being co-ordinated with iWay’s Active Travel programme that teaches cycling and scooter safety skills in local schools. Council is also working with other organisations to break down barriers for participation amongst tamariki and rangatahi, including “pop up” sessions where scooters will be available to use on the day for those without any wheels.
Ron Giorgi 3 Park, Flaxmere
Pakipaki - February to May 2025
The pop-up pump track will be visiting three to four parks each year. If you would like to see the pump track spend some time in your neighbourhood park please email parks@hdc.govt.nz and the team will see if there is a suitable site in the area.
