There are eight reserves in Hastings reserves where overnight stays in certified self-contained vehicles are permitted.
Vehicles clearly displaying a certified self-contained sticker are allowed to stay at these sites for a maximum of two nights.
These reserves are monitored daily by a local security firm and unauthorised campers may be issued with trespass notices.
This reserve is on the shores of the Clive River, between Napier and Hastings. Overnight parking at Evers-Swindell Reserve is only permitted on Hastings District Council land under the trees. No overnight camping is permitted on the Hawke's Bay Regional Council sealed car park that is located beyond the boat ramp, at the far end of the reserve. That prohibited area is clearly signposted. Please note: This area is subject to flooding during heavy rainfall or at very high tides.

Directions: | From Hastings travel along SH2 towards Napier, turn off just before the Clive Bridge onto Ferry Rd. The reserve entrance is off Clive Tce, which is the first road on your left, off Ferry Rd. |
Located on the beachfront, between the settlements of Haumoana and Te Awanga, Clifton Rd Reserve is the most popular and largest of the reserves provided by the Hastings District Council for overnight camping. Nearby attractions include wineries, home-based artists and the popular Gannet Beach Adventures tours to the Cape Kidnappers gannet colony.

Directions: | From Clive, take Mill Rd and follow the signs to Te Awanga, and turn into East Rd. Follow East Rd to the coast and then turn right onto Clifton Rd. The reserve is about 450m along Clifton Rd. |
Haumoana Domain is beachfront reserve on the banks of the Tukituki River, on the coast between Napier and Hastings.
Toilets facilities.
Directions: | From Clive, take Mill Rd and follow the signs to Haumoana. Follow Haumoana Rd for about 1 km, then turn left into Grange Rd and take the first right into Domain Rd. The reserve is on the beachfront, 300m along Domain Rd. |
This site is located off Pakowhai Rd in a picturesque rural setting, about 3km north of Hastings. It is a popular destination for day walks and is also a designated off-lead dog exercise area. Note: The car park is owned by Hastings District Council but the reserve is owned by Hawke's Bay Regional Council (HBRC). Overnight camping is prohibited on regional council land.

Directions: | From Hastings follow Pakowhai Rd towards Napier for approximately 3km. The reserve entrance is on your left, just past the intersection with Ruahapia Rd. |
This is a small remnant native bush reserve on Maraetotara Rd. The area features short bush walks to an historic hydro-station and the Maraetotara Falls is a popular swimming spot.

Directions: | From Havelock North take Te Mata Rd, heading towards Waimarama. Turn right at the intersection of Te Mata Mangateretere Rd and Waimarama Rd. Follow Waimarama Rd until you reach Maraetotara Rd (approximately 9.5km on your right). The area for designated overnight camping is approximately 2.5km along Maraetotara Rd on your right. |
This beachfront reserve is located on Richmond Road, Clive.
No toilet facilities.
Directions: | Follow SH2 to Clive, turn onto School Rd (by the Clive Hotel). Follow the road for approximately 1.5km then turn left into Richmond Rd. |
This reserve sits alongside the Tutaekuri River, west of Napier, and is a short drive from the Puketapu store, hotel and school on Dartmoor Road, Puketapu. It features a cricket pitch, toilets and barbecue facilities.

Directions: | From Taradale, follow Puketapu Rd for approximately 7km until you reach the settlement of Puketapu. Turn left at the Puketapu Hotel, onto Dartmoor Rd. The entrance to the reserve is approximately 1km along this road on your left. |

This reserve is located alongside the river, near several popular wineries in the Dartmoor Valley on Dartmoor Road, Puketapu.
No toilet facilities.
Directions: | From Taradale follow Puketapu Rd for approximately 7km until you reach the settlement of Puketapu. Turn left at the Puketapu Hotel, onto Dartmoor Rd. The entrance to the reserve is 10 km along this road, on your left. |
