Hastings Meatball Festival!: This is how we rolled on Friday 14 March 2025

Full stomachs, wide smiles, and 15,000 meatballs devoured – what a night!  Almost 5,000 hungry festival-goers packed into Hastings city centre for the inaugural Hastings Meatball Festival, tasting everything from beef and lamb to prawn and veggie and even vegan neatballs.

Hundreds of votes were cast in the People’s Choice Award, here are the results:
People’s Choice Winner: NZ culinary legend Peter Gordon, teaming up with EIT Hawke's Bay Hospitality students, wowed the crowd with a First Light Foods - NZ Wagyu meatball with labneh, pickled onions, kawakawa salsa, and crispy shallots.
Runner up: Black Betty BBQ – bringing the heat with brisket, jalapeños, and cheese sauce.
Three-way tie – Cellar 495 (Hawaiian-style pork), Shaneo's Bake House (classic crumbed), and Gina’s Food Truck (spiced lamb birria).

A huge shoutout to our amazing hospitality businesses, sponsors TW Group and Progressive Meats, and of course, all of YOU for showing up and making this festival a night to remember.
