There are nine housing complexes across Hastings dedicated to homing older persons in need; seven in Hastings and one each in Flaxmere and Havelock North. The focus is on providing safe, comfortable units that allow residents to have easy access to local services.
Council operates 220 single bedroom units, 175 of which are single occupancy and 45 double occupancy, for seniors aged 65 and over. Units are spread across nine complexes, seven in Hastings and one each in Flaxmere and Havelock North. Our goal is to provide safe, secure, and supportive living environments for senior residents unable to access market rentals due to limited financial means.
Built between 1960 and 1980 our units provide a functional living space, located near services such as shopping centres, medical facilities, and public transport; ensuring that residents have convenient access to everything they need.
Ensuring the comfort of our residents is important to us and our senior housing facilities support residents to live independently.
Each complex has a maintenance programme with urgent matters able to be reported 24 hours/7 days a week. Day-to-day tenancy matters are attended to by the senior housing team and assisted by our service partner Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga (TToH).
To be eligible for our senior housing, applicants must be aged 65 or over, meet the residency, welfare, income and asset criteria, and be able to live independently or with minimal assistance.
