Council provides a number of options for those not on the kerbside collection route. On this page you can find out where the transfer stations and the recycling drop-off facilities are, what you can take to them, and when they are open.

So many options . . .

If you miss your weekly kerbside recycling collection or live outside of the collection area, there are a number of ways to get rid of your easily recyclable items.

Within the urban area there are four options:

  • Blackbridge Transfer Station, Clive
    • Open Thursdays to Mondays: 8am to 4.30pm. Closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day
  • Henderson Rd Transfer Station, Flaxmere
    • Open Mondays to Saturdays: 7.45am to 4.30pm; Sundays and public holidays: 9.45am to 4.30pm. Closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday.
  • Waimarama Domain, Waimarama
    • Open seven days a week; unfenced
  • Martin Pl, Havelock North
    • CLOSED

In our rural areas Council has set up a Green Bin recycling scheme. This works with the assistance of members of the communities who advise when the bins require emptying. The are in:

  • Pukehamoamoa
  • Tutira
  • Poukawa
  • Maraekakaho
  • Waimarama
  • Waipatiki (Summer)

Got lots of green waste?

Drop-off points for green waste are:

  • Blackbridge Transfer Station, Clive
  • Henderson Rd Transfer Station, Flaxmere

The cost (see fees and charges at the bottom of this page) of getting rid of green waste at a transfer station is cheaper than general rubbish, so it makes sense to keep it separate. Keeping it separate allows Council to ensure it goes to a commercial composting company – which means it does not go into the landfill.

There is also a commercial company that accepts residential green waste in Awatoto, Napier. For the details see: BioRich.

In Hastings, general rubbish is accepted for a fee (see fees and charges at the bottom of this page) at:

  • Blackbridge Transfer Station, Clive
  • Henderson Rd Transfer Station, Flaxmere
