Transfer StationsTaupuni whakawhiti para

Council provides a number of options for those not on the kerbside collection route. On this page you can find out where the transfer stations are, what you can take to them, and when they are open.

What is a transfer station?

A transfer station is a place that accepts and treats waste before bringing it to a landfill or recycling facility.Waste collectors and the public can bring waste items not suitable for kerbside collection to transfer stations. This includes:

  • Green waste
  • Household waste
  • Timber
  • Scrap metal
  • White ware (old fridges, washing machines)

Our transfer stations also have recycling facilities

Got lots of green waste?

Both of our transfer stations take green waste. The cost of getting rid of green waste at a transfer station is cheaper than general rubbish, so it makes sense to keep it separate. Keeping it separate allows Council to ensure it goes to a commercial composting company – which means it does not go into the landfill.

There is also a commercial company that accepts residential green waste in Awatoto, Napier. For the details see: BioRich.

Where are our transfer stations?

We have two transfer stations in Hastings. Our transfer stations are:

  • Blackbridge Transfer Station on Mill Road, Haumoana.
Blackbridge is operated by an independent contractor (Bin Hire & Co. Phone No. 0800 258 246) and not Hastings District Council.
