Whakatu Arterial Link Update - 11 May 2017

Five months in, the work on the Whakatu Arterial Link is progressing as planned.

Of note is that Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will start working on the new Hawea Park, off Rangitane Rd, in the next few weeks, however pedestrian access will remain throughout.

Asphalting at the new roundabout at the intersection of State Highway 2 and the new Whakatu link has just been started. Once the first section is finished, traffic will be shifted onto the completed section and the balance of the roundabout built on the SH2 side.

At the same time, work on the route heading across the paddock from SH2 towards Whakatu has started.

Work on the bridge abutments at the new crossing of the Karamu Stream is almost completed, with the bridge building company expected on site next week to start on the construction of the spans. To give them access a route to the bridge site has been put in from Pakowhai Rd. It follows the route of the new link road.

Anyone particularly impacted by specific events during these works are being individually contacted, however if you have questions please don’t hesitate to call the project managers: Leslie van Heerden phone 835 7288, or Louis Meyer, phone 835 7288, or phone Hastings District Council: 871 5000.
