Karl Jenkins Requiem & The Peacemakers

Karl Jenkins Requiem & The Peacemakers

Karl Jenkins Concert will be Inspiring and Uplifting
Hastings Choral Society’s upcoming concert features two modern works by Karl Jenkins that have not been performed before in Hawke’s Bay.
The first work, Requiem, includes the Latin text traditionally used in a Requiem mass interspersed with Japanese haiku. The delicacy of these haiku, sung in Japanese, provides a peaceful commentary on the liturgical works, and the tying together of these different cultures results in a moving commentary on the modern world.
The second part of the concert, The Peacemakers, is set to texts from iconic figures who are associated with peace, not just armed conflict but race as well to beautiful inspiring music. These include the words of Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King, as well as excerpts of poetry, and writings from the Bible and Quran.
Joining Hastings Choral Society for this concert under the direction of Musical Director will be Cantare as their guest choir, and the accompanist will be Anna Hansen.
Karl Jenkins is one of the most prolific and performed composers in the world today. He was awarded a CBE by the Queen in 2010 and features in Classic FM’s Hall of Fame.
This Karl Jenkins Requiem and The Peacemakers concert is not to be missed. It will be held at 2.00pm on Sunday 19 May at the Taikura Rudolph Steiner School Hall, 505 Nelson Street North, Hastings. Tickets will be available at the door for cash sales only at $30.00 adult and $5.00 child.
