Two class acts lined up for Toitoi in May

LadyLarisaBlackAndWhite

Toitoi has the best way to treat your mum for Mother’s Day this year.

The incredibly talented Lady Larisa and her equally talented band will take to the Toitoi Opera House stage on May 8, bringing their long-awaited jazz show to local audiences.

Originally scheduled as an Art Deco Festival show, this is a perfect opportunity to bring some 1920s glitz and glamour to your (and your mum’s) Saturday night. Lady Larisa will perform her debut album, Honeychild, alongside a range of jazz classics which will have your toes tapping and your fingers snapping in no time. There’ll even be a golden cocktail on offer, to complement your golden attire!

Lady Larisa’s smooth, soulful voice is not one to be missed (she even opened for Michael Buble) and with tickets at just $21 each, this is sure to be a great night out.

Then the following week, we have the equally soulful (though more Janis Joplin than jazz) Nadia Reid and her band on Friday, May 14. Nadia is one of Aotearoa’s leading songwriters, with lyrics which are both clever and catchy.

This is her first time performing at the Opera House, as it was closed for restoration when she first burst onto the national stage in 2015. She was nominated for an APRA Silver Scroll award in 2017, for her hauntingly beautiful track, Richard, which judges described as "a stand-out folk-rock gem with its wonderfully direct delivery, charting heartbreak and dissolution, through striking imagery".

Tickets are $47.50 for what promises to be a truly exceptional show, so don’t miss out.
