Groundwork begins for Havelock North booster pump station

booster pump Small

The groundwork for the Havelock North booster pump station is being established this week in preparation for the build that’s the next exciting phase of the Hastings drinking water upgrade programme.

It’s part of the $11 million Hastings-Havelock North Water Trunk Main project that has seen 4.8 kilometres of pipe laid, from Sylvan Road in Hastings to Napier Rd in Havelock North.

The pipe was a critical first part of Hastings District Council’s Drinking Water Strategy, designed to improve reliance, capacity and flexibility in the water supply network.

The $5m booster pump station is the second component of the trunk main project, and will provide the necessary pressure to the Havelock North area of the network.

Fulton Hogan has been selected as the contractor to carry out the building of the pump station and associated pipework at 15 Karanema Drive, behind the Havelock North Fire Station.

Work has started with machinery and equipment being moved onto the site and, barring any delays caused by weather, is estimated to be completed by December this year.

Once this is completed and the pipe is operational, the last of the three Brookvale bores in Havelock North will be closed down.
