Hastings District Council’s Annual Report 2016/17 was adopted at a meeting of the Council on 26 October 2017.
Highlights over the past year include significant growth and developer interest in the Irongate and Omahu industrial zones, redevelopment of the Havelock North Village streetscape, construction of Whakatu Arterial Link road route and the start of the earthquake strengthening of the Hawke’s Bay Opera House. The last 12 months has also seen a focus on improving our parks, with enhancement across a number of parks and the once-in-a-generation upgrade of the Havelock North Village Green, with its new play space proving hugely popular.
Council has also developed a new youth employment approach, aimed at assisting Hastings youth into education, skill development and jobs, which is already proving hugely successful.
The report also notes the significance of the contamination of the Havelock North drinking water supply and the profound effect this had on the community. It outlines the work that Council has been undertaking with regard to the future management of the district’s water supplies.
