Hastings District Council was today advised that significant progress is being made on the delivery of the water change programme, which is focused on ensuring the delivery of safe drinking water and effective and sustainable water services to the community.
Independent Chairman of the Hastings District Council’s water services change programme Garth Cowie says significant progress has been made in the six months since the change team was established, and even more work will be completed during 2018 and beyond.
“Council is already delivering on the initiatives committed to under the change programme and its water strategy. It is moving as fast as possible to transform its water services so they are fit for purpose. I am pleased with what has already been achieved and what is planned for 2018 and beyond”.
Mr Cowie said the Council team was working extremely hard and is focused on meeting its commitment to deliver best practice water services and drinking water safety. Initiatives in place or underway include:
“As with any major infrastructure projects or change management initiatives, these improvements take time,” says Mr Cowie.
“Good progress is being made in strengthening the water network and support services, despite the need to follow best practice procedures in design, procurement and recruitment,” he said.
Hastings District Mayor, Sandra Hazlehurst says she is satisfied Council is prioritising safe drinking water and the improvement of water services.
“I am confident the water services change team and Council are working hard and making very good progress to deliver the fundamental service of safe drinking water all the way to the tap.
“It’s important that we keep moving quickly but also where necessary take the time we need to get things right. This is all about the health and safety of our people, and it is Council’s top priority.
“We know our community has been through a lot and there will be no compromise on our part in delivering drinking water the community can trust. We are listening to our people, reporting on our progress and are grateful for the support across the district,” says Mayor Hazlehurst.
