Preliminary by-election result in

The preliminary result of the by-election for the vacant Hastings District Council Havelock North-Hastings ward seat has been announced.

Eileen Lawson has received the most votes at 3424.

The confirmed final result is expected to be received by Friday.

The seat was left vacant after sitting councillor Sandra Hazlehurst was elected Hastings mayor in a by-election in November.

Voting opened on March 20 and closed at noon today, April 11, with 9307 voting papers received. That represented 28.52 per cent of eligible voters in the Havelock-North-Hastings ward. As of 3pm today, 34 special votes were still to be processed.
